Hey Howdy HAA Everyone!

Welcome back to Happily Adventures After! We’re excited to continue our “HAA Disney: Top 10” series, where each Wednesday we explore top 10 Disney lists inspired by the “Hey Disney” feature at Walt Disney World Resorts. Join us for a podcast-style dive into attractions, dining, travel tips, and hidden gems, offering you a virtual concierge experience. Let the magic begin!

Today, we’re diving into Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which opened on May 1, 1989, as Disney–MGM Studios. This 135-acre park immerses guests in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, evolving from its origins as both a theme park and a functioning production studio into a hub of immersive experiences. Iconic landmarks like the Hollywood Tower Hotel and the Chinese Theatre are now central to the park’s charm, making it a must-visit destination for movie magic and entertainment.

So, without further ado, here’s our HAA Disney: Top 10 for Hollywood Studios:

  1. The Trolley Car Café – This Starbucks location is a favorite of mine for its friendly Cast Members and top-notch service. Located on Hollywood Boulevard, it’s not just any Starbucks; it’s my go-to spot for a fresh coffee break. I even time my park arrival to enjoy a mid-day coffee here. It’s a little ritual that makes my visits to Hollywood Studios even more special.
  2. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway – Opening in March 2020, this attraction is the first to feature Mickey Mouse in a Walt Disney World park, which makes it extra special to me. It took over the Great Movie Ride’s space, and while it’s not the same as the old favorite, it offers a charming adventure through a new Mickey Mouse cartoon. My family and I adore this ride; it’s a fun, smile-filled experience that we look forward to each time we visit.
  3. Slinky Dog Dash – Inspired by Toy Story, this rollercoaster twists and turns through Andy’s backyard, and it’s my favorite coaster at Walt Disney World. My husband introduced me to Toy Story, and falling in love with the series has made this ride even more special. Although the queue can be hot and waits can be long, riding this attraction at night, when Toy Story Land is beautifully lit, is a magical experience.
  4. Backlot Express’s Side of Fries with Cheddar Cheese (add-on), and a Coke – This quick-service spot has become a family favorite for its fries with cheddar cheese and a classic Coke. After losing our go-to spot in Magic Kingdom, we found solace in Backlot Express. The quirky, movie-themed decor and the nostalgic taste of Disney fries with cheese make this a must-visit for my family and me.
  5. Funnel Cake with Strawberry Topping and Soft Serve Vanilla Ice Cream from Epic Eats – Located in Echo Lake, this dessert is my dream treat. Epic Eats offers a massive funnel cake topped with vanilla soft serve and strawberry, and it’s something my family and I always indulge in during our visits. It’s a classic fair treat with a touch of Disney magic that makes it irresistible, and enjoying it while watching the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular nearby is a perfect way to spend the day.
  1. Gertie the Dinosaur – This iconic Hollywood Studios fixture serves ice cream and quick bites, and it holds a special place in my heart for its Disney history. Built in 1989, Gertie was inspired by one of the first animation cartoons, and I love seeing her dressed up for the holidays. It’s a nostalgic reminder of Disney’s rich past, and the Cast Members here always add to the experience with their cheerful service.
  2. Fantasmic Show and Fireworks – This nighttime spectacular is a highlight of every visit for me. The combination of stunning effects, thrilling stunts, and magical pyrotechnics makes it an unforgettable experience. I cherish the moments when Mickey’s dream turns into a magical adventure, and the pre-show Disney Channel songs always put me in a great mood. It’s a show I prioritize, even though staying awake until the end is a challenge for me.
  3. Tower of Terror – Despite my aversion to scary experiences and the sensation of dropping, Tower of Terror is a ride I can’t miss. The eerie atmosphere, the Twilight Zone theme, and the thrill of the ride make it a favorite. I have so many fun memories associated with this attraction, from hilarious moments with family and friends to amusing misunderstandings about the ride’s location. It’s an experience full of excitement and laughter.
  4. Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant – This table-service restaurant combines dining with a classic drive-in movie experience. Although it might not offer five-star cuisine, the nostalgic atmosphere and the chance to enjoy a meal while watching sci-fi clips make it a fun and memorable experience. My family and I have had a great time here, and it’s the unique atmosphere that really makes it worth visiting.
  5. Jollywood Nights Special Event Ticket – Disney’s Jollywood Nights is a holiday event that adds a touch of glamor to the Christmas season. The adult-focused party features sparkling décor, craft cocktails, and exclusive meet-and-greets. I attended last year and enjoyed the festive atmosphere and special treats, and I’m excited to see how the event continues to evolve. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays with Disney magic.

As we wrap up our HAA Disney: Top 10 for Hollywood Studios, it’s clear that this park offers a dazzling array of experiences that capture the magic of Hollywood’s golden era and beyond. From the thrill of Slinky Dog Dash to the immersive Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater and the spine-tingling excitement of Fantasmic, Disney’s Hollywood Studios truly delivers a star-studded adventure for every guest. Whether you’re savoring sweet treats or embarking on epic journeys with your favorite characters, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks for joining us on this cinematic journey through Hollywood Studios. Until next time, keep dreaming big and let the magic of Disney continue to inspire your adventures. See you in the next edition of HAA Disney: Top 10 as we explore Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Walt Disney World’s newest park!
