We’re excited to kick off our review of our recent adventure to the Most Magical Place on Earth—Walt Disney World!

In this post, we’re diving into the travel preparation and booking process that set the stage for our summer trip. This journey was a bit different from our usual timing. While we typically head to WDW in early June, late August, or late May, this year’s plans were adjusted to accommodate the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on June 28, 2024.

We’ll start by sharing how we meticulously planned our travel to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip. From selecting our Delta flights to securing the best car rental and accommodation, every detail was carefully considered. Booking our Delta tickets was a crucial step in this process, and we’re excited to share insights on how we navigated that.

In the coming posts, we’ll cover the excitement of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and our experiences across all four Walt Disney World parks, Disney Springs, and our beloved Reunion Resort in Florida. But for now, let’s dive into the details of our travel preparations and the journey from booking to takeoff.

Review of Our Walt Disney World Travel Experience

Booking & Planning

We began planning this trip shortly after Disney announced the grand opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure for June 28, 2024. This was a key factor in adjusting our usual travel dates. The opening aligned perfectly with a long weekend, making it an ideal time to visit.

Securing flights was our next step, and we were fortunate to find excellent rates with Delta Airlines from Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) to Orlando International Airport (MCO). This marked a return to DTW for us, as it consistently delivers a smoother, more efficient experience than Toronto Pearson. While Pearson may be closer for us, DTW’s superior customer service and ease of navigation have earned it our preference for domestic travel.

Delta Airlines – A Smooth Experience

Delta’s booking process was simple and straightforward, especially for SkyMiles members like us. After locking in a Delta Comfort+ seat, we enjoyed a few extra perks such as priority boarding, extra legroom, and dedicated overhead bin space. The price point—$556.20 USD ($789.81 CAD per person)—was reasonable, especially given the holiday travel period.

One standout moment came the day after we booked our flights. The prices dropped slightly, and when we contacted Delta customer service, they not only refunded the difference but credited it back to our credit card instead of applying it to our SkyMiles account. This allowed us to use the savings for a Lightning Lane package, which was a nice bonus for our trip.

Travel & First Impressions

The flight itself was smooth, with Delta’s in-flight Wi-Fi and entertainment options keeping us entertained. From booking to takeoff, the entire experience with Delta was efficient, comfortable, and stress-free. Delta Comfort+ provided just the right amount of extra space, making our journey more enjoyable.

Once we landed in Orlando, everything continued to run like clockwork. The car rental process was quick and easy, setting the stage for a magical trip.

Final Thoughts

Overall, our experience booking and flying with Delta was excellent. The combination of reasonable pricing, top-notch customer service, and smooth travel logistics made for a fantastic start to our Walt Disney World vacation. If you’re planning a Disney trip, we highly recommend considering Delta Airlines and Detroit Metro Airport as your go-to options for domestic travel. They helped make our journey as magical as the destination itself!

Based on the smooth booking process, positive customer service experience with Delta Airlines, reasonable pricing, comfortable flight, and efficient car rental process upon arrival, I would rate this travel day 4.5 out of 5.

The day seemed nearly perfect, with minor price adjustments handled gracefully by Delta. The only potential downside mentioned was the higher holiday weekend prices, but considering the overall experience, it didn’t negatively impact the trip much.
