Is Disney PhotoPass & Memory Maker Worth the Hype in 2026?

Hi, it’s London! Welcome back to Happily Adventures After, where we help you create magical memories, maximize your Walt Disney World vacations, and discover the leadership lessons hidden throughout Disney experiences.

Today, it’s time for another HAA Disney Review as we take a closer look at one of Walt Disney World’s most popular vacation add-ons: Disney PhotoPass and Memory Maker.

If you’ve ever returned home from a Disney vacation only to realize that one family member is missing from nearly every photo because they were holding the camera, you’ve probably wondered whether Memory Maker is worth the additional cost. After multiple Walt Disney World vacations and several years of using Disney’s PhotoPass services as an Annual Passholder, I’m sharing my honest review, the pros and cons, who should buy it, and whether it deserves a place in your vacation budget in 2026.

Let’s dive in.

What Is Disney PhotoPass?

Disney PhotoPass is Disney’s professional photography service available throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

PhotoPass photographers can be found at iconic locations across all four theme parks, select Disney resorts, Disney Springs, character meet-and-greet locations, and special events. They capture posed family photos, candid moments, Magic Shots, attraction photos, and videos that are automatically linked to your My Disney Experience account.

Disney PhotoPass also includes:

  • Attraction photos and videos
  • Character meet-and-greet photos
  • Magic Shots featuring digitally added Disney characters and effects
  • Super Zoom and Tiny World video experiences
  • Select dining photos
  • Special event photography opportunities

What Is Memory Maker?

Memory Maker is the paid add-on that provides unlimited downloads of your Disney PhotoPass photos and videos.

Rather than purchasing individual photos separately, Memory Maker allows you to download every eligible PhotoPass image captured during your vacation window.

Disney currently offers:

  • Memory Maker Advance Purchase
  • Memory Maker
  • One-Day Memory Maker

Purchasing Memory Maker at least three days before arrival saves approximately $25 compared to purchasing after your vacation begins.

What Do You Actually Get?

With Memory Maker, you receive:

✅ Unlimited PhotoPass photographer photos

✅ Attraction photos and videos

✅ Character meet-and-greet photos

✅ Magic Shots

✅ Select dining photos

✅ Downloadable digital files

✅ Photo editing and borders

✅ Access for linked Family & Friends accounts connected to your reservation or travel party

Disney currently offers more than 175 PhotoPass locations, over 40 character opportunities, and approximately 15 attractions featuring photo or video capture.

Average Cost of Individual Photos

This is where Memory Maker starts making financial sense.

If purchased individually:

  • Single digital download: approximately $17 per photo
  • Prints begin around $12 and increase depending on size and format

For a family taking:

  • Castle photos
  • Character photos
  • Ride photos
  • Magic Shots
  • Family portraits

It’s easy to accumulate 50 to 100 or more photos during a week-long vacation.

At approximately $17 per image, purchasing photos individually can quickly become significantly more expensive than purchasing Memory Maker.

What About Ride Photos?

This is where things can become a little confusing in 2026.

Many guests don’t realize that attraction photos are often automatically linked through:

  • MagicBand
  • MagicBand+
  • Disney MagicMobile
  • Park admission tickets

If you purchase Memory Maker, all eligible attraction photos and videos are included.

Important Note About Lightning Lane

Many attractions that offer ride photos also include those photos when using certain Lightning Lane products. This means some guests may already receive attraction photos without purchasing Memory Maker.

However, Memory Maker covers your entire PhotoPass collection—not just your attraction photos.

When Memory Maker Is Worth It

First-Time Visitors

You’re already investing thousands of dollars into a Walt Disney World vacation. An additional $169 spread across resort accommodations, park tickets, dining, and transportation is relatively small when compared to the overall trip cost.

Families

Everyone gets to be in the picture.

No more vacation albums where one family member is missing because they were behind the camera.

Character Fans

Character interactions often create some of the most memorable and photogenic moments of any Disney vacation.

Special Occasions

Memory Maker becomes especially valuable for:

  • Birthdays
  • First Visits
  • Anniversaries
  • Family Reunions
  • runDisney Weekends

These are often once-in-a-lifetime memories worth preserving.

When It Might Not Be Worth It

Adults Taking Mostly Selfies

If you’re comfortable using your phone and only plan on taking a handful of photos each day, Memory Maker may be difficult to justify.

Short Visits

For a one-day visit with limited attractions and character experiences, One-Day Memory Maker may provide significantly better value.

Photography Enthusiasts

If you’re carrying a DSLR camera and enjoy editing your own images, Disney’s photography package may feel less compelling.

An Annual Passholder Perspective

For Annual Passholders, the Disney PhotoPass Downloads add-on costs $109 per year plus tax.

This is arguably one of the best values Disney offers.

If you visit Walt Disney World multiple times each year, the add-on often pays for itself after just a few visits.

Many Annual Passholders who initially skip the add-on later regret not having access to hundreds of photos captured throughout the year.

My Perspective

As someone who has had the Disney PhotoPass Downloads add-on attached to my Annual Pass for several years, I’ve personally experienced the value it provides.

One of the biggest benefits is that it isn’t limited to just your photos. You can also access and download eligible photos from linked Friends & Family members within your My Disney Experience account, making it especially valuable for group trips and family vacations.

Over the course of a year, the $109 add-on easily pays for itself when compared to purchasing individual photos or multiple Memory Maker packages.

However, if I were purchasing Memory Maker separately for every vacation, the $169–$199 price tag might be harder to justify depending on the length of the trip and how many PhotoPass opportunities I planned to use.

For many guests, the One-Day Memory Maker option may actually be the sweet spot.

At approximately $59, it offers exceptional value if you’re planning a character-heavy day, celebrating a special occasion, or spending a full day capturing memories throughout the parks. When you break down the cost per photo, the One-Day option may be the better choice for many travelers who don’t need unlimited downloads for an entire vacation.

Pros

The single biggest advantage of Memory Maker.

✔ Professional Quality Images
Disney photographers know the best angles, lighting, and backgrounds.

✔ Magic Shots
These create uniquely Disney memories that are difficult to recreate on your own.

✔ Excellent Value for Families
Large families can easily generate hundreds of photos.

✔ Ride Photos Included
No need to purchase attraction photos separately.

✔ Easy Sharing
Downloads are simple and convenient through My Disney Experience.

Cons

✘ Can Feel Expensive Upfront
$169–$199 is still a significant additional expense.

✘ Less Value for Solo Travelers
You may not generate enough photos to justify the cost.

✘ Requires Effort
You need to stop for photographers and intentionally take advantage of PhotoPass opportunities.

✘ Not Every Attraction Has Photos
Some attractions still do not offer photo or video capture.

Final Verdict

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ 4/5 Stars

Memory Maker remains one of Walt Disney World’s most underrated vacation add-ons in 2026.

While it isn’t a necessity, it provides tremendous value for families, first-time visitors, Annual Passholders, character enthusiasts, and anyone celebrating a special occasion. The ability to download every professional photo from your vacation often transforms what initially seems like an expensive add-on into one of the best souvenirs you bring home.

Would I buy it again?

Absolutely.

Would I recommend it for person/travel party on every trip?

No.

For vacations lasting three days or longer, especially those involving family members and friends and/or Annual Passholders, Memory Maker is usually worth the investment. For quick trips or frequent travellers who rarely stop for photos, you may be better off saving the money.

I think that Disney PhotoPass and Memory Maker continue to offer one of the easiest ways to preserve the memories of a Walt Disney World vacation. While the upfront cost can seem high, the value becomes much clearer when you consider the number of professional photos, attraction images, Magic Shots, and family memories that can be captured throughout a trip. For families, friend groups, first-time visitors, character lovers, and Annual Passholders, Memory Maker often delivers an exceptional return on investment. However, travellers taking shorter trips, relying primarily on selfies, or bringing their own professional photography equipment may find better value elsewhere.

Ultimately, Memory Maker isn’t a must-have for every Disney vacation, but for the right guest, it can become one of the most treasured souvenirs from a magical Walt Disney World adventure. ✨🏰📸
