Top 10 Best Things To Do Outside the Disney Parks | Walt Disney World Non-Park Day Strategy Guide (2026)

Hey Howdy HAA Everyone!

Welcome back to Happily Adventures After! We’re excited to share a great strategy guide today with you, on the Top 10 Best Things To Do Outside the Walt Disney World Parks!

When most people begin planning a Walt Disney World vacation, the focus naturally lands on the four Disney theme parks; Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom.

This makes a lot of sense!

But one of the biggest mistakes Disney guests make is assuming the magic stops at the park gates.

Truthfully, some of the BEST experiences at Walt Disney World happen completely outside the parks.

From championship golf and Disney water parks to resort hopping, mini golf, incredible dining, and relaxing resort experiences, there is an entirely different side of Walt Disney World waiting beyond Lightning Lanes, rope drops, and ride strategies.

Whether you are planning a non-park day, trying to create a more balanced vacation itinerary, looking to save money on park tickets, or simply wanting to experience more of Disney property, these activities absolutely deserve a spot on your trip.

Here are our Top 10 Things To Do Outside the Disney Parks at Walt Disney World!

10. Explore Disney Springs

Disney Springs is far more than just a shopping district.

Between themed restaurants, live music, Disney shopping, entertainment, and waterfront views, Disney Springs can easily become a full evening destination on its own.

Some of our favorite experiences include:

  • Gideon’s Bakehouse
  • World of Disney
  • The LEGO Store
  • Aerophile Balloon Flights
  • Splitsville Luxury Lanes
  • Live entertainment throughout the evening

One of the best parts?

Admission and parking are completely free.

For guests looking for Disney atmosphere without using a park ticket, Disney Springs is one of the best values on property.

9. Enjoy Disney Resort Activities

One of the most underrated parts of staying at a Disney Resort is the amount of activities available directly at the hotels themselves.

Depending on where you stay, you may find:

  • Movies under the stars
  • Campfires with marshmallow roasting
  • Pool games and trivia
  • Crafts and family activities
  • Outdoor recreation
  • Animal viewing areas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
  • Electrical Water Pageant viewing

Disney Resorts are not simply places to sleep.

They are immersive vacation destinations designed to extend the storytelling and magic beyond the parks themselves.

8. Go Resort Hopping

Resort hopping may honestly be one of the most enjoyable “Disney adult” activities on property — and we mean that in the best possible way.

Exploring Disney Resorts allows guests to experience:

  • Incredible Disney theming
  • Unique restaurants and lounges
  • Resort-exclusive shopping
  • Disney transportation experiences
  • Seasonal decorations
  • Relaxing atmospheres away from the parks

Some of our favorite resorts to explore include:

  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
  • Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort

Every Disney Resort tells its own story, and each one offers a completely different atmosphere and experience.

7. Play Disney Mini Golf

Disney miniature golf is honestly far better than many guests expect.

Walt Disney World currently offers two themed mini golf experiences:

  • Winter Summerland Miniature Golf near Blizzard Beach
  • Fantasia Gardens & Fairways Miniature Golf near EPCOT

Both provide excellent theming, family-friendly fun, and a lower-cost activity outside the parks.

Fantasia Gardens especially stands out because the Fairways course almost feels like real golf in miniature form, offering a surprisingly challenging experience even for experienced golfers.

It is one of Disney’s hidden gems for families, couples, and competitive Disney friends alike.

6. Visit Disney’s BoardWalk

Disney’s BoardWalk becomes especially magical at night.

Located near EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the BoardWalk area offers one of the most relaxing atmospheres anywhere on Disney property.

Guests can enjoy:

  • Waterfront views
  • Live street performers
  • Entertainment
  • Lounge experiences
  • Late-night snacks
  • Surrey bike rentals

The BoardWalk area slows the pace of a Disney vacation in the best possible way and reminds guests that not every magical Disney memory needs to involve attractions.

5. Experience Disney Water Parks

Disney’s water parks are often overlooked — and honestly, they should not be.

Both Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Blizzard Beach offer full-day Disney experiences filled with storytelling, attractions, and immersive environments.

Typhoon Lagoon delivers tropical island energy, while Blizzard Beach features one of Disney’s funniest and most creative backstories.

Guests can enjoy:

  • Wave pools
  • Lazy rivers
  • Family raft rides
  • Thrill slides
  • Relaxing beach areas
  • Disney-themed environments

And honestly?

Florida heat and Disney water parks are a near-perfect combination.

4. Try Disney’s Outdoor Recreation Activities

Many guests do not realize how many outdoor recreation experiences Walt Disney World offers beyond rides and attractions.

Some activities include:

  • Fishing excursions
  • Horseback riding at Fort Wilderness
  • Archery
  • Canoe and kayak rentals
  • Surrey bikes
  • Marina rentals
  • Amphicar rides at Disney Springs

Disney property offers far more adventure and recreation opportunities than many guests realize — especially for families looking to build a more balanced vacation itinerary.

3. Watch Disney Fireworks Outside the Parks

One of the best hidden Disney vacation tricks?

You can enjoy Disney fireworks without entering a theme park.

Some incredible viewing locations include:

  • Polynesian Beach for Magic Kingdom fireworks
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort marina area
  • California Grill
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • EPCOT resort area for Luminous

In several locations, Disney even pipes in the nighttime spectacular music to enhance the experience.

Watching fireworks outside the parks creates a far more peaceful and relaxing atmosphere while still delivering that emotional Disney magic.

2. Play Championship Golf at Walt Disney World

Disney golf completely surprised us.

Walt Disney World offers several legitimate championship golf courses, including:

  • Palm Golf Course
  • Magnolia Golf Course
  • Lake Buena Vista Golf Course

As golfers who have played Reunion Resort and multiple Orlando-area layouts, we genuinely did not expect Disney golf to compete at this level.

The courses are beautifully maintained, professionally operated, and offer authentic championship-caliber experiences.

Disney’s Palm Golf Course especially impressed us with:

  • Excellent course conditioning
  • Challenging yet playable design
  • Disney-level hospitality
  • Beautiful Florida scenery
  • Views of the Walt Disney World Monorail nearby
  • Hearing the Magic Kingdom Walt Disney World Railroad between holes 2–5

That final detail created one of the most unexpectedly magical moments of the round.

There is something genuinely special about standing on a championship golf course while hearing the iconic Walt Disney World Railroad whistle echo from Magic Kingdom in the distance.

It is one of those uniquely Disney experiences you simply cannot replicate anywhere else.

1. Relax and Enjoy Your Disney Resort

Sometimes the best thing to do when visiting Walt Disney World…

is simply slow down.

Whether you are staying on or off Disney property, Disney vacations can quickly become exhausting if every moment revolves around park strategy, attraction wait times, and trying to maximize every minute.

One of the most valuable experiences you can have is simply enjoying your resort.

That might mean:

  • Sitting by the pool
  • Exploring the resort grounds
  • Watching the sunset
  • Enjoying Disney transportation
  • Grabbing a specialty drink
  • Spending time together
  • Appreciating the atmosphere

Disney Resorts are immersive environments designed to be experienced — not simply slept in between park days.

Sometimes the most meaningful Disney memories are found in the quiet moments.

Final Thoughts

Walt Disney World is so much more than rides, attractions, and theme parks.

Beyond the castles, fireworks, and iconic Disney experiences lies an entire world of activities that many guests never fully explore — and honestly, some of them become the most memorable parts of a Disney vacation.

Whether you are golfing, resort hopping, enjoying a water park, exploring Disney Springs, or simply relaxing at your resort, these experiences offer a different kind of Disney magic.

A slower magic.

A hidden magic.

And one that reminds us Walt Disney World truly is a complete vacation destination — not just a theme park destination.

Until next time HAA family…

See ya real soon! ✨
